What zone is Houston Texas?
The USDA Hardiness Zone map puts Houston in Zone 9a, but communities just north of the city are in 8b.
What zone is Central Texas in?
Many areas of the country are now in a warmer USDA zone than they were on the old map, but most of Central Texas remains unchanged. We’re still Zone 8b, which means that our average lowest winter temperature is 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
What is the difference between zone 9a and 9b?
Plants in zone 9a will tolerate minimum temperatures of no lower than 20 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. In 9b, the lowest temperature for flowers or plants should be 25 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Zone 9 occupies most of the lower states including California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida, to name a few.

Do hydrangeas grow well in Houston?
It took me a while to get a handle on growing on hydrangeas in my Houston garden. Hydrangeas bloom poorly or not at all in full shade. Compost-enriched, well-draining soil also are important. Hydrangeas like a moist soil, especially during summer, but they do not tolerate soggy conditions.
